Commissioner Overman Calls Constituents "Super Stupid"

Kimberly Overman photo-op with Gloria Steinem
Progressive Democrat Hillsborough County Commissioner Kimberly Overman, a member of the Hillsborough Emergency Policy Group (EPG) currently dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, takes to Facebook to express her opinions.

Hillsborough County, with a population of 1.4 million, has 3.19% of all coronavirus cases, 3.27% of all hospitalizations and 1.8% of all deaths in the state of Florida.

Overman and her fellow Democrat EPG member Tampa Mayor Jane Castor have advocated for  draconian measures of curfews and mandatory masks be implemented in Hillsborough.

Some cooler heads on the EPG with more common sense luckily prevailed and the curfew and mandatory masks failed with only Castor and Overman voting for them.

Overman posts on her own Facebook page articles from Al Jazeera. Included with this Al Jazeera article are her own comments about needing serious commitment and buy in to social distancing, face covering and sanitization by individual citizens and businesses BEFORE we are back TOWARD supporting "back to business".

We are six weeks into a shelter at home shutdown that has thrown 30 million people out of work, including hundreds of thousands in Florida. Overman does not think we have made a serious commitment. How out of touch is she?

Ironically Overman posted this on April 28th, the day before Governor DeSantis announced the beginning of reopening of businesses in Florida. Overman looks even more out of touch.

Overman, who continues receiving her $100K salary and golden benefits courtesy of the taxpayers, does not think we have yet been personally responsible enough - for her. Trust is a two way street but Overman does not trust her own constituents to be personally responsible.

Overman, a countywide commissioner, has begun taking heat from the public and her constituents. Many are now pushing back against Overman's draconian actions, her condescending comments, and her lack of compassion for those financially devastated by the shutdown.

Overman, who lives in Seminole Heights, took to this "Seminole Heights Uncensored" Private Group Facebook page to vent.

Overman felt comfortable being "uncensored" in her private group of friendlies. She used it to speak her mind about the county commission job she "signed up for".
Overman post on private FB group page
When Overman campaigned for your vote in 2018, who knew that she thought many of you were "super stupid".

People's lives and livelihoods have been upended and destroyed by an economic shutdown we were told was to prevent overrunning medical resources.

We succeeded in that goal but that serious commitment by Overman's constituents has caused great financial detriment to so many individuals, families and businesses in Hillsborough County.

Overman should be applauding Hillsborough County not calling her own constituents stupid.

  2. If politicians are so eager to reopen why are government offices still closed and I can't go tour the Florida Capitol building or the White House? What are they scared of!!!

  3. She is NOT the people who voted first her Stupid!! And she is NOT against going to work. What she is against is NOT having tgeperoper pertections in place for that to happen. Its to protect the citizens of Tampa. Asa taxpayerI'm all for sanitizing stations,I'm all for mandatory face mask in public. I'm all for social distancing. Its to protect our health and save lives. Or did that just became a thing of unimportance now.is it now that I don't give a hoot as long as it is not me or my kids. Is that the crappy attitude now?

  4. Maybe Overman's "super stupid" comment was specifically referring to the constituents like the one who posted the comment on "May 1 at 9:00 AM". Where did that person learn to write? Maybe that constituent is a byproduct of his/her/own locked up home-schooling?

  5. Nice hit piece. So crucial for you to regurgitate someone posting frustration with the naysayers albeit someone working towards the safety of the community with thankless criticism. So let me ask, What have YOU done for the community lately Ms. Calvert?

    1. Ummm... These procedures were supposed to be in place to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed with sick patients by slowing the spread of virus. Guess what hospitals are not overwhelmed some are furloughing staff. Mission accomplished. Can we have our bleedin lives back now?

    2. Lacking any medical preventative measures, it is highly likely we will see a surge in the virus. Maintaining some level of physical distancing safety measures is the immediate way to resume some semblance of former livelihoods. Go visit Publix, Walmart or a drug store. People are sporadically doing the social distancing. We are still battling to get ample testing in place, which will help identify and isolate those that will continue to become infected. Instead of attacking a cautious politician...try working towards getting the testing we need so people can self monitor and be notified when they have encountered a potential infected individual.

    5. During this time it is in our best interest to be compassionate and kind. This article is in such bad taste. Ms Overman is an incredible leader. Try helping next time. It will do you some good.

  6. Note to K.O. your participation in the controversial and divisive Seminole Heights Uncensored group only hurts you among those who might support you.... this liberal democratic finds your SHU remarks sophomoric and laughable

  7. I can not even fathom how one must feel when they are trying to protect their constituents and all they get is push back. Her first concern is the safety and health of the people in Hillsborough County. The economic suffering should be dealt with by better efforts by our State to provide relief for small businesses, not corporations. Removing lock down orders should only happen after proper precautions and the guidelines that are suggested by the experts are put in place.
Also knowing that opening up to early will actually hurt the small businesses the blogger claims to want help, must be equally as frustrating. These businesses will lose the protections put in place during the lock down, and be forced to do so at 25% of their normal business. Re-opening is not to the advantage of small businesses, but for the benefit of large corporations and removing the protections our government should be providing. I cant help but wonder why someone who lives in Pinellas spends so much time in Hillsborough counties politics or has so much to say about what happens in a county she doesn't even live in.

  8. Sharon Calvert is a sad person with a garbage propaganda blog and a personal vendetta. Get a life and do something good for your community instead of bringing down others who fight to do good for theirs.
